2010 Capital Challenge
Intercollegiate Real Estate Case Competition
The Maryland/DC Chapter of NAIOP is excited to announce our first annual Capital Challenge. This event will be the first NAIOP academic real estate challenge in the Washington, DC area and will consist of a case study competition between graduate students from local university real estate programs. Teams of students from The University of Maryland, Georgetown University , and The American University, will compete in a case study of a challenging, actual development site within our region. The case preparation will begin on February 4th at our kick-off and culminate with a presentation event on April 8th at which the winning team will be announced. The Capital Challenge is an exceptional and unique opportunity for our members to interact with some of the brightest new stars in our industry. This will also provide students with exposure to real world real estate development challenges, meaningful interaction with seasoned industry professionals, along with the excitement of intercollegiate academic competition.
In order to provide the student teams appropriate support, facilitate knowledge of the area's commercial real estate community, and to leverage the student ideas we are requesting that our member firms strongly consider participating in this Challenge through the available mentor sponsorship opportunities.
The Sponsors will contribute to scholarship funds to be awarded to the winning team as well as actively participate in the Challenge through consulting support to the competing teams. The following opportunities are available.
Site Sponsor ($5,000) (1 only)
The Site Sponsor will provide the case site and assist in the creation of the case study. Examples will be provided. This will provide the Site Sponsor with many new ideas and solutions for the development of their property. The ideal case study site is one which provides for multiple development and use scenarios and which will challenge the creativity of each team as they prepare development and financial plans.
Consultant Sponsor ($500)
We are looking for Consultant Sponsors to provide the teams with technical assistance in preparation of their case studies. Consultants will help the teams identify the major issues posed by the case but will limit the amount of direction provided. Consultants will be assigned to the teams through a blind draw system. The time commitment for each consultant will be limited to 3 meetings and approximately 8 hours of mentoring with the teams over a 2 month period. This will not only provide networking opportunities for the students but for the Consultant Sponsors as well.
Please consider joining these member firms in support of the Capital Challenge.
